The Business Association of Georgia, with the participation of the representatives of the member companies, hosted an online meeting of the Association's Environmental Protection Committee, the main topic of which was the draft law on environmental responsibility prepared by the  Government of Georgia.

The bill, which envisions qualitatively new approaches to environmental protection, became the subject of particular interest of the business sector as early as last year, when its initial version was presented and the document has been further refined since the consultation process.

As Irakli Nozadze, Chairman of the Environmental Protection Committee of the Association, noted during the meeting, “the draft law establishes fundamentally new, progressive approaches in the relevant field  and is more focused on harm prevention as well as its elimination and rehabilitation of the damaged environment, which is fully in line with the practices and approaches of EU countries.  According to him, several important issues were identified during the work of the draft law with the members of the Business Association, which are related to the means of financial security of the environmental risk, the Environmental Damage Fund, the methodology for assessing the damage and the circumstances excluding liability; Further clarification and refinement of these issues is planned in the working mode with the authors of the bill.
