1 Jul '20

Within the framework of the Energy Committee of the  Business Association OF Georgia (BAG), market participants discussed the future model of the electricity market and the details of the fundamental reform related to it.

At the meeting, which was attended by Davit Tvalabeishvili - Deputy Minister of Economy, Davit Narmania - Chairman of Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, Irina Milorava - General Director at JSC Georgian Energy Exchange, Ucha Uchaneishvili - Chairman of the Management Board of Georgian State Electro system and Zaza Dvalishvili - General Director of ESCO, the member companies of the association had the opportunity to hear information about the draft electricity market rules which is currently being considered for public administrative proceedings in the GNERC and defines the principles of the arrangement of the electricity market.

This reform is equally important for electricity generation, transmission and distribution companies, as well as for all end users, some of whom will have to register directly as consumer and purchase electricity on the Energy Exchange in the future.

"the reform is so fundamental and important that it requires the maximum involvement of market participants: those who already have to sell and purchase electricity on the relevant platform, and those who will have this commitment in a few years. The main thing is that in the next year the market will work in test mode and after that it will be possible to return to the document once again to make the necessary adjustments," said the Executive Director of the Association at the end of the meeting and at the same time he thanked the representatives of the member companies of the Association and the invited guests for their high interest and active involvement in the process.
