4 Jun '21

The meeting, held within the framework of cooperation between the Business Association of Georgia and the Infrastructure Construction Companies Association/ICCA, discussed the problems in the sector, most of which were particularly aggravated in the wake of the pandemic.

It was noted that the companies are not able to take advantage of the measures defined by the Decree # 619 of the Government of Georgia of March 31, 2020, which as a result of the increase in prices for construction materials had a negative impact on the companies implementing infrastructure projects.

During the working meeting, the main problems were identified, the necessary measures for the solution of which will be prepared by the companies implementing the infrastructure projects together with the business associations and will be presented to the Ministries of Infrastructure and Economy in the near future.
"Today, business operators are virtually shutting down because of the pressure on world markets over construction materials prices. Fast and effective action is needed to prevent companies from going bankrupt and losing thousands of jobs. Therefore, fulfilling the promise made by the Georgian government at the initial stage of the pandemic to the infrastructure companies is vital."In our turn, the Business Association of Georgia will continue to work on the problem and in the near future will present concrete mechanisms to the relevant government agencies," said Levan Vepkhvadze, Executive Director of the Business Associatio of Georgia.
