10 Mar '11

At the meeting held on March 10 at Courtyard Marriott Hotel, the minister of Finance of Georgia introduced new Head of the Revenue Service, Mr. Jaba Ebanoidze to the members of BAG.
Before being appointed on this new post, Mr. Ebanoidze was the Deputy Minister of Justice. As stated by the Minister of Finance during introduction, "One of the key priorities of the new Head will be to improve tax administration". Many important reforms were implemented in the tax system during Giorgi Tskhakaia's term of office. With the new Head, administration in the Revenue Service will improve with the intention of its further liberalization. Our ambition is not to have administration as an additional burden for business and to have businessmen see the partner and not risk in the tax inspectorate". According to the new Head of the Revenue Service, Mr. Jaba Ebanoidze, the reforms launched in the Revenue Service will continue; tax authority's work will be regulated and special corporate standards and approaches will be developed to make the tax authority's work fair in the eyes of business.
The President of Business Association, Mr. George Chirakadze gave positive assessment on the appointment of Jaba Ebanoidze on the position of the Head of Revenue Service and added that "Appointment of Jaba Ebanoidze on the position of the Head of Revenue Service is the right thing to do. The relations between the business and Head of Revenue Service will be successful. Different stages of development call for different approaches and probably it is the time when new approaches should be applied in relations with business. When Mr. Tskhakaia was appointed as the Head of Revenue Service, he inherited quite a grave sector. Business was not ready for these approaches. However, a lot has been done since then, and now new approaches are needed. Thus, we hope that approaches towards the business will definitely change.
In the second part of the meeting the Minister of Finance talked about the novelties to be soon reflected in the Tax Code in the form of amendments. The discussion concerned the issue as important as is the acknowledgment of natural and/or technical losses for the purposes of tax administration. The Minister promised that this issue will be regulated in the nearest future and the government will offer business completely new and modern approach in this regard.
