6 Mar '25
At the Business Association of Georgia, representatives of the Customs Department of the Ministry of Finance's Revenue Service introduced simplified customs formalities under the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) to BAG members.
During the meeting, employees of the Revenue Service's Customs Department presented a comprehensive presentation on the new transit system and answered questions raised by company representatives. Specifically, attention was focused on the capabilities for transport companies regarding NCTS and conditions related to guarantees. Discussions also touched upon the obligation to submit guarantees for companies holding Authorized Economic Operator status when using NCTS, system compatibility with other platforms, and other topics.
As a reminder, as of February 1, 2025, Georgia joined the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure and the Convention on the Simplification of Formalities in Trade in Goods - as provided for by Annex XIII of the Association Agreement between Georgia and the European Union—becoming part of the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS). As a result of bilateral work and efforts carried out with EU support, the Georgian Customs Administration is now able to exchange electronic data in real-time through NCTS.
"Representatives of the Business Association of Georgia's member companies were briefed in detail on the system that the Revenue Service successfully implemented, which will significantly simplify business operations and the movement of goods across 27 EU member states and 9 other countries - a total of 36 countries. This is crucial both for facilitating international trade and for business operations, as well as for bringing the country closer to Europe in general," stated Levan Vepkhvadze, Executive Director of the Business Association of Georgia.
