Training session on Food Safety Management System (ISO 22000) Held at the Business Association of Georgia

20 May '26

Organized by the Business Association of Georgia (BAG), a one-day intensive training session on the "Food Safety Management System (ISO 22000)" was conducted for representatives of the business sector.

The primary objective of the training course was to raise awareness among participants and study the requirements, principles, and practical applications of the ISO 22000 standard. Throughout the training, special attention was paid to topics such as risk-based thinking, HACCP principles, hazard analysis, and the determination of Critical Control Points (CCPs), which are vital for any company involved in the food supply chain.

The training was led by Giorgi Dondua, a highly qualified specialist in the field of Integrated Management Systems (IMS), who possesses more than 12 years of professional experience in managing, implementing, and improving international standards across major international corporations.

The program was specifically structured around the High-Level Structure (HLS) and the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle. This approach provided participants with a clear understanding of how to effectively integrate ISO 22000 with other leading international standards, including Quality (ISO 9001), Environmental (ISO 14001), and Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001) management systems.

The intensive course included both theoretical modules and active practical sessions, during which participants performed stakeholder analysis, formulated food safety objectives in the SMART format, and worked on filling out internal audit questionnaires and HACCP tables. "In today's market, implementing international food safety standards is no longer just about regulatory compliance; it is a primary prerequisite for business sustainability, consumer trust, and increasing export potential. Our goal with this intensive course was to provide companies not just with dry theory, but with real, practical tools—ranging from risk management and HACCP principles to the integration of ISO 22000 with other leading management systems. Quality and safe management systems are what make Georgian businesses competitive at both the local and international levels," stated Levan Vepkhvadze, CEO of the Business Association of Georgia.

The Business Association of Georgia will actively continue to support its member companies and implement educational projects on topically relevant issues.
