5 Dec '17

The Business Association of Georgia met with the members of the High Council of Justice on December 5, 2017.  Issues related to the judiciary system affecting the activities of business subjects and the entire business environment in Georgia have been discussed at the meeting.

At the meeting, the Secretary of the High Council of Justice, Giorgi Mikautadze   informed the businessmen about the activity of commercial chambers established in Tbilisi City Court Civil Collegium and provided the statistics of the cases discussed.

At the closed meeting, the businessmen discussed the problems they face when dealing with the judiciary.

According to the Secretary of the High Council of Justice, they understand business-related problems and they are actively working in this direction.

"A few months ago we identified the first problem; we learned what challenges are faced by the business in the court, namely regarding the protracted cases. The questions about the competence of judges are legitimate. Modern business environment develops rapidly, judges shall also follow the new requirements. We believe that narrow specialization will enable us to plan a proper retraining course" – said Giorgi Mikautadze.

Among the key issues discussed at the meeting were the vision and plans of the High Council of Justice to raise public trust towards independence and impartiality of the judiciary; disciplinary proceedings; procedures for appointment of judges; timeframe for effective implementation of electronic system of case management in the judicial system, etc.
