Planned amendments to the "Environmental Assessment Code" and upcoming updates to the Law "On Industrial Emissions" were discussed at the Business Association of Georgia (BAG) alongside Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.
As noted during the meeting, the legislative changes aim to improve environmental standards while simplifying administrative procedures for businesses, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and enhancing service quality.
According to the draft law, plans include clarifying procedural timelines for standard and expedited proceedings, as well as revising service fees for environmental assessment procedures.
The meeting highlighted updates to waste management regulations, including setting daily limits for waste recovery and disposal, as well as refining the definition of "pre-treatment of waste."
Additionally, under the planned changes to the Law "On Industrial Emissions," the fee for issuing an integrated environmental permit will be established. For activities subject to both an integrated permit and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), businesses will only be required to pay a single service fee.
"For the business community, it is crucial that alongside raising environmental standards, administrative processes remain efficient and clear of bureaucratic barriers. We welcome that the Ministry considers the private sector's needs, offers procedural simplicity, and relieves businesses of double financial and administrative burdens. Such open dialogue serves as the best platform for sustainable economic development," stated Levan Vepkhvadze, Executive Director of the Business Association of Georgia.
