10 Oct '12

Business Association of Georgia hosted a meeting with State Minister of Employment PaataTrapaidze and his deputy NikolozRamishvili. Representatives of the Ministry and businessmen attended the meeting, which was held on August 10th 2012 in Sheraton Metechi Palace. PaataTrapaidze presented action plan and vision of the newly-created Ministry. According to the Minister, the Ministry will have small but flexible office, which, as the first step, will work on the creation of the database of civilians, who seek employment.  At the moment up to three thousand people are registering unemployed civilians in 25 cities of Georgia. The database will presumably be ready by mid-November. It is also important that the legal status "unemployed" will be created. Ministry will carry out professional testing of the unemployed civilians in order to reveal their professional skills, will provide them with special trainings and help them find jobs.

One of the ways the Ministry aims to solve unemployment issue is to create the so-called labor exchange, automated database of people, who seek employment and of existing job openings in the country. As PaataTrapaidze stated, additional work places can mainly be created by business growth and establishment of new businesses. Self-employment in different fields is also important. Government and business should work together to solve the issues that impede business growth and consequently, job creation. Minister offered Business Association of Georgia to create joint working group, which will work on problem identification and solution strategies.
