18 Feb '12

On February 17-19 Business Association of Georgia hosted representatives of Georgian business and government in Batumi, Hotel Sheraton. The aim of the meeting was to present to government and discuss business initiatives; on their part, businessmen had opportunity to learn from government about ongoing and planned reforms.
President of Business Association of Georgia George Chirakadze and Prime Minister of Georgia NikaGilauri officially opened the meeting with welcome speeches. As the president of Business Association noted "similar meeting of business and government first took place last year, same time in Batumi. This was first serious step, first precedent, when business and government, under business initiative, set together around the table and discussed existing problems, development opportunities and future plans. Last year vividly showed that this first meeting was even more successful and effective than expected. This is a meeting where we can talk about our problems, share our opinions and visions of future, and set common plans. Certainly, different opinions, comments, views and more importantly, different ideas may arise in this process. Otherwise our cooperation would not happen as it is focused on solving particular issues and problems, and on development of business environment in general; we are partners in this process; we have common goals _ strong business, strong economy, strong state." Prime Minister of Georgia NikolozGilauri stated, "Weconstantly state that business development is one of the main priorities of our country and we continue to prove this with our actions. Corruption free system, flexible legislation, simple business registration procedures, proper monetary policy and tax system - these are examples how government supports business development. We believe that we made right steps in this directions, this is proved by the fact that Georgia ranks number in Doing Business Ranking. In the framework of the meeting, several important issued were negotiated and agreed upon and these decisions will be transformed into legislative changes shortly."
