The Committees for Agriculture Development and for the Protection of Intellectual Property setting up with the Business Association of Georgia

The presentation of two new committees of the Business Association of Georgia -for Agriculture Development and for the protection of Intellectual Property - was held at Sheraton Metekhi Palace Hotel on October 7.
The BAG's president Mr. George Chirakadze, Minister of Agriculture of Georgia, Mr. Bakur Kvezereli and Director General of the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia, Mr. Irakli Ghvaladze attended the presentation.
The President of the Business Association Mr. George Chirakadze introduced the heads of the Committees Mr. George Margvelashvili and Mr. Irakli Kakabadze to the audience. As stated by Mr. Chirakadze, the Association has already obtained successful experience of committee working and expressed his hope that the activity of the new committee will be as productive as others.
The Committee for Agriculture Development will work with the leadership of the Director General of Tbilvino, Mr. George Margvelashvili with the aim to promote the development of agricultural sector in Georgia, to support and encourage the reforms in this area, to improve the regulatory legislative framework and to cooperate with international organizations on the implementation of specific projects. The Committee's work provides for active involvement, with close cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union and Ministry of Agriculture, in the implementation of food safety.
The Committee for the Protection of Intellectual Property, led by Irakli Kakabadze (Director General of Ltd Alta), has been set up in accordance with the Memorandum signed between the BAG and Sakpatent. The Committee's main working area will be the relations regulating the registration and protection of intellectual property. Within the framework of close cooperation with Sakpatent, the Association's members will have access to the information kept at Sakpatent, receive consultations on how to draft the application for trade and patent marks, will be allowed to attend thematic trainings etc.
The Committee will actively provide awareness on intellectual property related rights and respective instruments which will encourage he development of businesses engaged in the relevant sector.
As explained by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Bakur Kvezereli, the Ministry is planning to closely cooperate with business: "Agricultural sector has been quite dynamically developing worldwide and even during global economic crisis it was evident. We are delighted that business is going to actively cooperate with the government. Our main priority is not to just working on foreign investors. It is equally important for us to closely cooperate with local business as well" - stated Mr. Bakur Kvezereli.
According to Sakpatent's Head, Mr. Irakli Ghvaladze, recently Georgian business has intensified its interest on intellectual property issues.
"We welcome business' active cooperation with Sakpatent. Georgian companies are becoming active in this field and so has the registration of Georgian brands. We're planning to launch many new projects in the future, including commercialization of patents", - said Sakpatent's leader, Mr. Irakli Ghvaladze.
