The Parliament of Georgia and Business Association agree on the set up of Joint Working Group

Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, Mr. David Bakradze met with the BAG members on 6 of July.

The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Finance and Budgetary Committee of the Parliament, Mr. Zurab Melikishvili and Chairman of the Committee for Sectoral Economy, Mr. Giorgi Meladze.

The dialogue between the businessmen and legislative authority concerned Georgia's internal and foreign political situation.

As stated by the Chairman of the Parliament, political stability inside the country significantly improves the investment climate and increasingly encourages business doing. The government of Georgia successfully coped with the important task as was transparent and democratic conduction of local elections which in the future will further strengthen international trust and support in the future. According to David Bakradze, it is fundamental that the political powers run the processes in the format of the dialogue and solve the existing disagreements only through consensus and cooperation. 

Furthermore, the Chairman of the Parliament spoke about foreign political situation around Georgia and emphasized the significance of the visit of US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton in Georgia.

As voiced by Mr. Bakradze, strong statements made by the Secretary of State in Tbilisi regarding the occupation is another confirmation of the West's continuous support to the state of Georgia which is an important factor for Georgia's security.

President of the Business Association George Chirakadze stressed the significance of political stability for business and added that the Association has the experience of successful work with individual ministries and Government of Georgia in general. This will facilitate enhancement of trust between the business and government, joint and effective solution of the problems.

At the meeting new draft tax code was also discussed. Second hearing of the draft code at the Parliament is planned for July 16. As announced by the Chairman of the Parliament, he welcomes businessmen's active involvement in the course of committee hearings of the draft code.

At the initiative of the Association's Vice President, George Isakadze, at the end of the meeting the Chairman of the Parliament and businessmen agreed on the set up of bilateral working group. The Group will allow the representatives of legislature and business to establish direct communication and ensure more active involvement of the businessmen in the legislative process.
