5 Mar '10
The Business Association of Georgia hosted the meeting on Georgia-Turkey trade relations.
Together with the BAG members the meeting was attended by the Advisor to Prime Minister for Foreign Economic Relations, Tamar Kovziridze.
The event aimed at reviewing the situation, problems and prospects existing in the area of trade between two countries.
Ms. Kovziridze covered in detail the importance of Turkish market for Georgia and added that within the framework of already signed FTA much more could be achieved. Namely, today numerous exemptions are already enforced but on some goods (e.g. agricultural goods) customs tariffs still remain high and GoG will continue its work on solution of these issues.
The discussion concerned also the prospects of conclusion of FTA between Georgia and EU and efforts made by GoG to this end. It was emphasized that drafting of relevant legislative framework is underway for the introduction of quality control system, registration of food producing companies has started and from 2011 quality control will be gradually launched which will facilitate healthy competition on the market.
